An underground release back in January, the tune has been slowly taking over clubs, can be heard booming out of car stereos across the UK and will surely be a staple in Ayia Napa over the summer months. Such is the scale of its appeal that it is due for a major release on Relentless/Virgin Records this September. Now even the mainstream can’t escape UK Funky.
Egypt says that she is bringing ‘old school music back to the new school’. This North London singer/songwriter from a musical family of singers and musicians grew up in a multi cultural and diverse community. This resulted in being thrown into a melting pot of sounds, being exposed to different sounds such as Madness, Loose Ends, David Bowie, Kate Bush, The Clash, Bob Marley, Soul to Soul, Madonna, Motown, The Beatles and so on. She began writing at the tender age of twelve.
Egypt’s ‘In The Morning’ is produced by the talented Fuzzy Logik. His sound is difficult to pigeon hole. He says that basically any influence goes, from classic pop to Fela Kuti. His first EP (Bangerz n Mash vol 1.) was an instant success when released. Soon after he set up his record label, World-class Music, as he felt that there was a market for his genre mashing sound. And the first release was a project with a hot vocalist called Egypt. The rest as they say, is history.
