Girls Aloud firecracker Nicola Roberts is expected to premiere her first solo single, ‘Beat of My Drum’ today.

The members of Girls Aloud have been keeping busy since they decided to take a break in 2009. Nicola threw herself in to launching her own make-up range, Dainty Doll, but has found herself back in the studio after signing a solo deal in December.

“It was important my first single was different to anything else around. I love that it’s a song everyone can sing and dance along to,” she said.

The single, due for release on June 5th, is produced by Major Lazer, who most recently worked with Beyoncé on her new single ‘Run The World (Girls)’.

The creative forces behind Major Lazer, Diplo and KISS’ very own Switch, have described the track as “crazy awesome”.

Other producers involved in Nic’s solo work include Metronomy and Dimitro Tikovoi.
