The singer shut down doubters with an acapella performance.
Beyonce has confirmed that she did lip-sync her inauguration performance but shut down doubters by opening a Super Bowl press conference with an acapella of the Star Spangled Banner.
Clearly aiming to deal with the controversy straight away, she belted out the American national anthem then simply said: “Any questions?”
Explaining why she chose not to do the high-profile performance completely live, Beyonce told the media audience that she was a “perfectionist” and did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra, saying “I did not feel comfortable taking a risk…”
“I wanted to make him [Obama] and my country proud, so I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track.”
The Single Ladies singer dodged questions about whether Destiny’s Child would get together for her Super Bowl performance (we’re hoping that the fact she didn’t deny it means it’s happening) but did confirm that she would definitely be singing live. She has been releasing behind the scenes videos of rehearsals online in the run up.
During the press conference, Beyonce also discussed how she felt about revealing more about her personal life in her new documentary and more excitingly, hinted that she might be announcing a new tour after the Super Bowl!
We’re so looking forward to seeing the big performance now!
