Girls Aloud have confirmed what we all suspected, now that the tour has come to an end, they have decided to split.

In a statement sent via their twitter account, they thanked fans and explained that the journey was over, saying:

“Dear Alouders, we just want to say from the bottom of our hearts Thank you!! This tour has been an amazing experience and the perfect chance to say thank you for being on this journey with us through a decade. It has far exceeded any of our dreams and we hope we are forever your inspiration and reminder that dreams really do glitter!! Your love and support will stay with us forever but we have now come to the end of our incredible time together . Love you lots.”

UPDATE: According to a tweet today from Nadine Coyle however, it doesn’t seem like the decision to split was a mutual decision. The singer told fans that she “had no part in any of this split business” and wanted to keep going.

Cheryl Cole, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, Kimberly Walsh and Nadine Coyle confirmed that Girls Aloud were returning back in October 2012. They celebrated their 10th anniversary by releasing a greatest hits collection Ten, and a tour.

Cheryl had let slip in her autobiography, that the group would split after a final tour and album though, saying: “We’ll be working on a tour and greatest hits album. Then I think that’s it for Girls Aloud. We’ve achieved more than any of us ever dared to dream of.”

The band formed in 2002 as contestants on X Factor predecessor, ‘Popstars: The Rivals’. Will you miss them as a group?
