Here’s a daily dose of female empowerment and wisdom from Queen Bey herself.
It’s been nearly a week since Beyonce released her surprise fifth studio album and set the entire Internet on fire.
She’s just posted a video to her YouTube page which explains some of the ideas behind her Pretty Hurts video, in which she plays a beauty queen fighting to stay at the top of her game.
Bey, 32, reveals that it was a childhood participating in pageants and being in a singing group called Girls Tyme that helped her come up with the inspiration for the clip.
The group featured on a US show called Star Search but failed to win, something which Beyonce admits was impossible for her 9-year old mind to even comprehend.
“It was a really defining moment in my life as a child. In my mind we would perform, we would win and we would get a record deal. That was my dream at the time. There is no way in the world that I ever would have imagined losing as a possibility.”
She adds that losing the competition was one of the best lessons she ever learnt.
“Sometimes you lose. You’re never too good to lose. You’re never too big to lose. Sometimes it happens, and you have to embrace it,” she says.
Now she’s a mum, Beyonce also adds that all the awards in the world can’t beat the feeling of her daughter Blue Ivy saying “mommy.”
