Pharrell gets his first Oscar nomination plus Gravity and American Hustle lead with 10 nominations each.

Pharrell received his first Oscar nomination today, after getting the nod in the Best Original Song category for ‘Happy’ from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack.

The producer is currently holding on to the top spot in the UK chart with the fun track, and has also recently won an award for the website accompanying the song 24hoursofhappy.com.

American Hustle and Gravity lead the list of Oscar nominees announced today.

Both films received 10 nods each for the 86th Academy Awards and were closely followed by 12 years A Slave, with nine. All three unsurprisingly, are competing for the coveted ‘Best Picture’ category, among others.

All three movies also led the list of BAFTA Award nominees, which were announced recently.

Among the list of those mentioned in the Best Actor category are Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) and Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street) – It is actually the fourth time for DiCaprio.

Lupita Nyong’o and Jennifer Lawrence are both up for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

The winners will be announced on March 2nd.
